Harvest

Day: 107

Well, it is time to catch up the log. The photos are from last week, and are from just before harvest, and in the middle of harvest. I think that having three plants in the 2 x 4 tent was just too much. Next cycle is going to be only two plants. I bet I’m gonna get almost the same amount of harvest. These were just packed too tight and not a lot of light was able to get through to the middle. I did a wet, trim, and used that blue hanging rack inside the grout tent with the fan on and lights off, took about seven days to dry. Everything is now sitting in cure jars.

Day: 57

Flower

Raised lights so they all have room to grow. The tent is pretty full; plants are 20” tall (I was expecting something bigger based on the strain info, but I totally happy with the size so far). Feeding 2x/day, 0800 and 1800. First time with this strain, so we are still getting acquainted. 76F, 58% humidity.

CyberLeaf

CyberLeaf That’s a little crowded. I would thin that out a little bit to help with possible issues down the road

GrownInVA

GrownInVA I am clearing out some of the “underbrush” today, to help with air circulation. Not to state the obvious, but I am amazed at what three little plants will do inside a grow tent. I was going to hook up a scrog net, but it doesn’t seem I really need to. They all seem to be growing it pretty much the same height, and have completely filled the tent. Not sure if I would even benefit from a scrog net at this point.

Day: 56

Flower

Moved to flower today, scheduled harvest is around 12/12 - 12/15. I am very happy with their progress. I finished with the automatic feeding system this week, and had to make a few tweaks to make it work flawlessly.

Day: 49

Interesting week. Four things I learned this week, and one real question: 1. Do what cocoforcannabis.com says to do. Just do it. I wasted a bit of money and time thinking “well I can use this item instead of the one that Dr. Coco recommends.” Could not have been more wrong. The pump I tried using got clogged quickly within a day, but I think it’s also because it was only designed for clear water maybe the nutrients clogged it up. 2. Do LST. I don’t know if I am doing it right, but I have never seen so many Bud sites on my plants before. 3. Ask questions, and act on the gift of feedback from the community! I am lucky that LeChron James brought to my attention what plant condition he was seeing in my photos, and I adjusted accordingly. Without his feedback, I would have kept going down the wrong path with nutrients, so thank you LeChron James!! 4. Smell can be Totally Eliminated indoors! I have one charcoal filter inside the tent sucking air in, and another outside blowing air out. 100% no smell! Now for the question: I am using the red clips from Amazon for LST (you can see them in the photos). When do I take them off? I am still adding clips when training new stems, but I am wondering if I take them off the ones that have been trained for a couple of weeks? When I remove the clips, do they remember the training, or do they start straightening out again?

LeChron James

LeChron James Leave them on there for a couple weeks. The plant will keep that shape once it heals from the LST

GrownInVA Thanks!

Day: 31

The troop is doing well. Very well, actually, as compared to anything I’ve grown outside. It takes about half gallon of nutrients and water to have 10% or more flow out through the coir for all three plants. I wanted to keep up with the runoff measurements, but kneeling down every day to get a sample is best left for younger people. Instead, I’m just doing a clear, careful observation of each plant each day to see if there’s anything that indicates a problem. So far, nothing to be found. Everybody is bright, green, and happy. I am looking into an automated feeding and drainage system, I should have those installed within the next two weeks. . I started LST this week, (that’s the red that you might see between some of the leaves), and seeing how this will work. Not quite sure what to do with temperature or humidity yet, in the garage at this time of year is where the tent is located, and it is averaging about 80° with 71% humidity; I do realize that’s a little high. I think I’ll have better control when feeding and drainage is automated, but I seem to be OK right now. I am following the guides from cocoforcannabis.com for the automation; if anyone has experience with this system, please let me know. For the nutrients, there is something I don’t understand, so maybe someone can enlighten me….. if I follow the concentration chart from the nutrient manufacturer, element nutrients, all the plants burn immediately. I have the nutrients diluted to 1/4 of what they are recommending, and the plants seem to be doing fine. I don’t understand why the recommendation would be so far off from what I’m seeing. Even measuring with a pH pen and a TDS pen, the recommended concentrations are so far off the scale, like five times what they should be any guidance, please let me know. Thanks in advance!

LeChron James

LeChron James Did you follow his guidelines for washing and buffering the coco? Are you also following his nute recipe? He’s the ultimate resource for learning to grow in coco for sure. Your plants are a bit light color wise. Will wait to hear your response

LeChron James

LeChron James On the nutes, you can’t go wrong with coco for cannabis’s recommended feed chart. Your plants appear under fed. Do you have an EC pen?

GrownInVA

GrownInVA I was using the element nutrients chart on their packages. I am using a tds/ec pen, which is reporting crazy high when using their recommended feeding. Diluted to 25% was bringing measurements into an acceptable range (ec in the mid 400’s)

Day: 19

Moving to a spacious new home! All have been moved to their final homes, 5 gal grow pots. Based on previous results, I assume it will take a few more days for the coir to flush out and give accurate measurements. I think I need to rinse out and buffer the coir a lot more before using it in the future. It took several days for the coir to level out and give expected results; maybe I should just plan for that. Either way, the girls have outgrown their solo cups, have great root formation, and seemed happy moving to their new homes.

Day: 18

OK, a couple of things. Like I said before, this is the first time growing in a tent instead of outside. I can tell you that these plants look at 100 times better than anything that was grown outside during the last 4 grows. The color is better, there is absolutely no indication of any kind of disease or pest or anything like that. —————————— that being said, here is my log up to today, and I am still dialing in the nutrients. Green means it is at the target I am shooting for.

Day: 18

I know there’s some of the numbers on the chart that are high, and I’m not quite sure why they were so high in the beginning. I did the eight hour buffer, then drain it then another eight hour buffer, then drain it and then I used that. And I have no comparison as this is the first time I’ve used Coco coir.

Day: 17

Looking good. This week I’m lowering the light to 18”, 75%, and moving to the grow bags. Also working out my scrog plan.

Day: 14

Happy with their progress, still dialing in the nutrient mix as I get used to using coir. Tds 391, ec 782, ph 6.6, 84.4f, 64%rh. Also learned to ensure ALL vents are secured (other than exhaust and a small bit for fresh air) to keep the tent smell proof! Only thing I don’t get is how tds in runoff is higher than fresh (fresh nute was 237, but runoff was 391)

LeChron James

LeChron James Did you buffer the coco or check the runoff EC?

growinva

growinva Yes. Buffered the coco twice (or once, depends on the terminology).

Looking good. 86.5 F, 65% rh, 6.2 ph, 220tds, 480 ec

Day: 11

Looking good. May have to dilute nutrients again, as these numbers look a little high. (Or maybe this the result of not flushing enough. I guess I’ll find out in a few days. If anyone is following and has same knowledge, please share!) 4:45pm, 91F, 58%rh, runoff is 480ppm, 982ec us/cm, 6.97 pH

Day: 10

Moved into the tent, and a lesson learned. So, as said earlier, this is my first grow in coir, and in a tent. Previous grows were all outdoors, in various types of soil mix. Weather always seemed to be the worst possible for growing conditions (mostly too hot, and way too humid with rain for most days over a several week period. It was always a “let’s harvest now before we lose the crop/ let it get worse”, hence the decision to move indoors. ———————— The girls didn’t do anything over days 6-7, so I decided to start feeding. Very weak solution, half the strength of what I used in soil. Day 9, I woke to nutrient burn on the leaf extremes. Using my tds pen (another new tool) to test the solution, and while diluted, was still almost 3x stronger that it should have been. I flushed, fed with the correct concentration, and trimmed away the burnt leaves (that’s why Beth looks a little misshapen). Day 9, I moved the three to the tent for a stable environment. Day 10 (today) I find new growth, and hopefully they are on the way to recovery. Lesson learned- use the tds and ph pens!
