Importance of temp and humidity

Specifically for germinating seeds, seedlings, and clones

The importance of temp and humidity throughout the plant life cycle from seed to consumption is overlooked by so many (including myself for years) but is so important, especially in germination, with seedlings, and with clones.

Day: 3

Today is my day 3. The seedlings are all out now and all have tap roots. At this point, you could technically transplant, but i wait a few more days until there are more Roots showing. That one little root on the bottom is the tap root. It’s the lifeline of the plant until more roots are visible. I always make sure to triple check my strains are labeled properly. If you are taking them out, wear new gloves or wash your hands really good. I still will mist them a few times a day. I try to keep humidity around 70-80% still and temps 75-85F. Either tomorrow or Tuesday I’ll transplant them into solo cups with holes in the bottom. Make sure to stay sanitary. Any rapid rooters that are too saturated i make sure to squeeze out any excess water but still keep them pretty moist. At this point, the seeds have really used all of their energy getting rooted and out of the rapid rooter. They will need very low EC/PPM feedings soon, but i don’t start that until transplant. I’ll cover that when i do.

I mix about a tsp if this great white (beneficial bacteria) in a bowl of tap water and soak my rapid rooters in it for 5-10 mins before putting seeds into it. It promotes root production. I have zero proof that this is effective, but I’ve been doing it for years and it doesn’t hurt the seedlings. You will need something to monitor your humidity and temps inside the cloner. The white one pictured is Connected to my phone via Bluetooth. I also have others that connect to wifi and Bluetooth. I can check remotely from my phone. I’ll go into those more in a bit. If you don’t have that, one of the little black ones pictured work fine. So the pic of the plants and cloner is the day after i put them in the rapid rooters. (Don’t mind the other seeds germinating and clones). The temps are a little colder than i would like, so i put some old hand warmers under the other ones. I like to keep my humidity at this point between 70-80%. Temps around 75-85 F. You can see where some are popping out of the rapid rooter. Don’t mess w them. Just keep the conditions in those parameters and you’re good. I use a little t5 light because i have clones in there and that’s just how I’ve always done it. One of the thug pug seeds i must have missed a rapid rooter because i went to check on it that day and it wasn’t in there lol. Stoner fuck up.

Peng Do you not get damping off with humidity that high on seedlings?

ganjaman420 All huge facts! 🔥💚

gayla_d Peng-no i don’t. Usually it doesn’t get up into the 80s. When it has i didn’t have issues. Once they pop fully i try to keep the RH lower. Usually 65-75%.

These are just my successful methods that i am sharing. I don’t know everything. No grower does. This is just meant to help people. Germinating seeds - cleanliness is key first off. Wear gloves, disinfect tools you use, etc. This includes the area where your plants go. I clean my cloners with a 10:1 bleach solution (put in a spray bottle) and spray the cloner down well. Let it dry, then wash with regular dish soap and hot water. Air dry and that’s how i sanitize my cloner. Anyways, This is my method of germinating and i have a 100% germination rare with it. I posted some of these pics before but this is more for educational purposes. More in comments.

gayla_d I like to germinate my seeds by throwing them in some tap water for 24 hours. Hopefully they pop a little root out. If they don’t you can soak them another 24 hours or longer if you want them to have roots. I will put mine into the rapid rooters either way. To prep the rapid rooters, i soak them in some great white shark mixed in a bowl with tap water for like 5-10 mins. Put the seeds in the holes and take a tiny piece of rapid rooter from the outside and gently place it over the hole. Don’t pack it down so the seedling can’t pop out. Just cover it. Then i put them in the cloner and get the humidity set between 70-80%. If it goes above 80 with seedlings, i don’t sweat it too much. Don’t let it get above 90%. I also use a heated mat for germinating seedlings that i place under the cloner. Start off temps i keep at like 75-85 F. I’ll put some warm tap water in s spray bottle (also sanitized and only used with the cloner) and keep it next to the cloner. Spray them down a bit and close the lid. Adjust vents to increase and decrease as needed. Just try to keep things in those parameters the best you can.

Peng It sounds like a lot of work, respect. 😎

picked up these monitors from Amazon. They are called Govee and they have monitors that connect to wifi, Bluetooth, or both. Download their app, connect the devices and put them wherever you need them. The ones that connect through bluetooth obviously don’t give you readings if you’re not home. The wifi ones do though. The first 3 pics are Bluetooth enabled only. The 4th is the one that uses wifi too so you can see your readings if you aren’t home. It charts your readings too. Which i love.
