Atomic gardening
Half lives matter
Atomic gardening has been used for many years as a way of inducing random mutations. We already have a few mutant strains, let’s see what happens after exposing some seeds to a range of beta, gamma, and X-rays lol

Day: 45
Bingo! Whorled mutation on one seedling that was exposed to 1000+ usv of gamma radiation!

Day: 21
We got two radiation damaged plants! These have the highest chance of mutation. The goal is to produce sickly but not dead plants, as well as to lower the germination rate to 1/3. The plants that survive have the highest chance of being stable mutants. These do not appear to have visual mutations at this time.

calvert Interesting
Day: 17
18 days of exposure to radiation, for a total dose of 1800.28usv/1.8msv/0.0018Gy , at a dose rate of 3.7usv of X-ray/gamma for 484h with an initial 12 of beta/gamma at a dose rate of 0.79usv. This is to give a base line as to how much radiation cannabis seeds can handle. The radiation does increase the chances of mutation but the chances are still around 1:1500 seeds so I am not expecting mutants from these seeds. I will be sprouting them to see if there is anything then culling anything that isn’t visually mutated.

Discpimp Super interesting things going on thanks for continuing to share your journey on this. Out of curiosity how large of dose would destroy the seed? Do you use low doses and hope for minimal impact?
dinin It would take a couple thousand times more radiation than I can muster to harm a seed, even the standard for atomic gardening is much more than I can provide. The idea would be to blast seeds with radiation to the point most come out as sick plants , which drastically increases the chances of mutants
Day: 17
A last look before culling, would have been healthy vigorous plants. Bye bye 👋

Day: 15
So far doesn’t look like there’s anything fun, might have to up the radiation dose for the next batch of seeds.

Day: 13
First seed is up and it sure looks yellow to me! The chances of the first seed popping being an albino as astronomically low.. we shall see.

Second seedling from the atomic garden selection. Looking pretty normal, might have to kill this one off

topdawg11 Newbie here. Why are you exposing seeds to radiation?
dinin I made a previous post in this journal with some quotes on it. I am doing this to induce mutations. This is a method that has been used for over 40 years now to produce some well known food crops. Durham wheat used in pasta is one of the best examples of crops that have been produced through atomic gardening. This can produce all kinds of useful and detrimental mutations.
piperboy007 Well thats neat. Best of luck!

jaydeedenver Do you have any flowers growing? I’m very interested to see😀
dinin I have other journals posted. I’m assuming you mean cannabis flowers, but I have all kinds of flowers
jaydeedenver Sorry I’m new to this app I just saw your are they journal beautiful flowers and I would be interested in seeing what other flowers you grow my friend you should start a journal for those as well 💜💜💜😀😀

Day: 3
First set Hot out of the radiation chamber , mutant plants here we goooo. 4 seeds will be taken out in intervals to stagger the radiation dose. Fantastic 4? TMNT? Hulk has been over used..

If you’re against GMO, and induced mutations this is for you. 2965+ registered cultivars, one’s we use and eat every day come from this process. Humans have been using mutation through radiation and chemicals, since 1930. “Through the years, mutagenesis has generated a vast amount of genetic variability and has played a significant role in plant breeding programs throughout the world. Records maintained by the joint FAO/IAEA Division in Vienna show that 2965 crop cultivars, with one or more useful traits obtained from induced mutations, were released worldwide during the last 40 years [20]. Notable examples are several wheat varieties (e.g., durum wheat used in pasta), barley including malting barley, rice, cotton, sunflower, and grapefruit, resulting in an enormous positive economic impact.”

Creepall Half lives matter xD The seeds don't stay radioactive after you take them out of the chamber right?
